ANUAH is working to create a sustaining, state-wide, professional community of practice, for all Alaskan educators interested in expanding their understanding & ability to teach American history in the 21st Century. Our model for professional development uses new tools and collaborative methods with teachers, to help break down the isolation commonly found in their professional lives and to help them become leaders in the effort to bring 21st C. tools and skills into student’s history education.

Benefits available by joining the Alaska Network for Understanding American History:

• Free, yearly, 3 credit graduate level “American History Digitized” courses taught by the nationally renown Center for History & New Media at George Mason University.
• Free participation in our yearly ANUAH Summer Academy (as well as graduate course credits).
• Free graduate credit opportunities for National Archive & Library of Congress self-paced online courses, as well as other professional development learning opportunities.
• Support and guidance in developing a personal development plan for your long range professional development, (possibly leading to highly qualified status in History and beyond for educators who so desire).
• Free tech tools, training and access to many 21st Century collaborative websites, which can enhance your project-based and interdisciplinary teaching abilities and help make yours a 21st Century classroom.
• Free access to an expanding wealth of online TAH resources such as podcasts, webinar recordings, unit plans, web resource collections & media modules prepared specifically for us by Teachers Domain from PBS station WGBH's Educational Foundation.
• Collegiality, friendship, encouragement and support from a growing number of other Alaskan educators interested in developing the same skills and abilities that you will be pioneering.

And the best part is that teachers can participate as much or as little as they choose, based on their own wants and needs. There are no mandatory requirements and all our services and resources are FREE to all Alaskan teachers of American history at whatever grade level they teach!
